Buck is great, and well, thats all I really need to say. I spent countless hours in this mode, and I eventually unlocked Vidmaster: Endure, which was as fun as it was frustrating. Its not particularly revolutionary, but it is a lot of fun. ONI Alpha Site is my personal favourite out of the bunch.įirefight is a blast. Outside of Mombassa Streets, which I have my issues with, each campaign mission is a lot of fun to play through. A city drenched in darkness, with graffiti, litter and corpses and battle sites everywhere. I like the story, and it is decidedly less gung-ho lets save the galaxy (which is appropriate), but the Rookies story doesn't really make sense, and he could have woken up a few hours later, just as Dare contacts him, and the story wouldn't have changed one bit. Walking point to point in the city each time, surviving dozens of Covenant attacks along the way, all until he can pick up things from the ground until he gets a phonecall from his Commander's ex-girlfriend.". He does this again, and again, and again, until he's done it six times in total. He gets out to explore the city until he stumbles across something that belongs to a squadmate. "Your character wakes up, hours after being dropped in his ODST pod. ![]() not that there were many alternate routes. Other than searching for audiologs, there was little reason to go off the beaten track. The "open world", whilst a novel idea for the Halo franchise, was little more than a pretty environment. Its a shame that it made New Mombassa's brilliant atmosphere worse because of its inclusion. It is so useful, that there is little reason to turn it off. VISR mode is kind of like Detective Mode in the Arkham games. I still felt like I could take just about as much damage. Sure, your melee was a little weaker, but that was about it. The game never made me feel like an ODST, instead of a Spartan. ODST has one of my favorite soundtracks as well. Its atmosphere is undeniably a bit different, but its just so appropriately moody. Its definitely pretty different, but undoubtedly refreshing, and I've had a lot of fun. Reach had some good ones, but only a few were as memorable, with only Glacier, Holdout, and Unearthed really feeling like standout maps with the last being DLC exclusive (Corvette, Beachhead, Installation 04, and Courtyard were decent but I can't recall ever having a really great time on them like the others.) Don't shoot me, but if you're wondering my opinion of H5 firefight, from best to worst for me it goes ODST>H5>Reach. Crater, Rally Point, Chasm Ten, Windward, and Last Exit were all awesome. On top of that I think it had the best firefight maps. Buggers are seriously one of the coolest sci-fi horror things to fight. Being attacked by a cheiftain with war drums in the background was missing and B: lacked Buggers. Reach was close and did a lot to innovate the gametype with stuff like generator defense, but A: had boring brutes. I think every time I've played Buck's first mission I've found a new angle to approach the combat from in the room where you run into the hunters.įirefight was the best in ODST as well. There are many vantage points one can get to in order to get a new angle on their foes. ![]() Furthermore this strategic aspect is heavily amplified since it takes place largely in a city. This was present a little bit in other games but nowhere near as much. ODST has something awesome that other Halos don't have in the ability to navigate around a large world, thus allowing you to strategically plan your routes based on enemy drops and patrols. We thought users would be able to infer why we locked it, but going forward we'll post a comment when we do, as we do when removing threads. With the release of H2A its spot as my favorite Halo game has since been contested, but I still think ODST might be my favorite. We intentionally left up the thread to not censor ideas. The one on the right was simply getting to the point where we were having to remove entire comment chains for rule breaking, and considering there was already a massive thread about the nameplate/Twitter discussion earlier in the day (which we spent a lot of time moderating and actively worked to not lock) we thought locking the thread was fine. OP of that thread posting what title he's going to use Someone saying post it on r/Halo to get a bunch of downvotes and make news The OP of this thread should know this since he is on that 4chan thread as well. We caught it before it blew up, so we felt it was better to just remove it and move on. We were already suspicious of it being a dogwhistle given the discussion surrounding the nameplate so we looked into it. The one on the left we locked and removed because it was legitimately a 4chan false flag/brigade meant to stir up crap on the sub.
